Prairie Meadows’s Board Approves $13 Million in Charitable Giving Grants
July 13, 2023 - Altoona, IA. – Prairie Meadows’ Board of Directors approved $13 million in grants to nonprofits aligned with its mission to support arts and culture, education, economic development, and human services. Prairie Meadows grant programs work to strengthen and expand opportunities, infrastructure, and services offered within the community. Below are the three grant programs offered and the amount awarded:
- Prairie Meadows Legacy Grant program awarded 19 grants totaling $4 million dollars. Legacy Grants provide funding in the range of $100,000 to $1 million for large-scale, signature projects in central Iowa.
- Prairie Meadows Community Betterment Grants were awarded to 234 nonprofit organizations totaling $3,697,000.00. Community Betterment Grants fund small-to-medium sized projects with grants ranging from $100 to $99,999.
- Prairie Meadows Youth Sports and Recreational Grant program awarded 23 grant totaling $303,000.00. Youth sports and Recreational Grants are in the range of $1,000 - $50,000.
- Des Moines Airport expansion project will receive a $5 million grant.

Prairie Meadows and the Polk County Board of Supervisors representatives will co-host a joint Community Impact Luncheon on Friday, September 1 at 11:30 a.m. at Prairie Meadows in The Meadows Events Center. The luncheon will recognize the partnership that Prairie Meadows and Polk County have had since 1989 and will celebrate the organizations who have received grant funding from Polk County and Prairie Meadows.
