Prairie Meadows Kicks Off 2023 Live Racing Season

ALTOONA, IA (May 12, 2023) – Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino’s highly anticipated LIVE horse racing season will make its return this weekend. The action-packed season begins Friday, May 12 at Prairie Meadows’ one-mile oval track, located just outside of Des Moines, IA.

The 80-day season features races Friday through Monday with a variety of special race days and events. They’ll begin with 18 days of Thoroughbred-only racing through June 17. The 57-day mixed Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse schedule will take place June 18 – September 30. Post times are set for 6:00 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 4:00 p.m. on Sundays and Mondays. Post times may change for special race days, events, and holidays.

Prairie Meadows’ racing season would not be complete without its signature races and events like Festival of Racing taking place July 7 & 8, the Iowa Classic on September 30, and an early Independence Day celebration on July 3. The 2023 season will introduce new trackside entertainment and fun for the whole family to enjoy. There will be trivia along with yard games, fun photo ops, and more!
