Prairie Meadows & Polk County Host Celebration to Honor Veterans
November 9, 2021—Altoona, IA. Prairie Meadows and Polk County are hosting a Veterans Day celebration that invites veterans and the general public to a ceremony honoring our nation’s heroes. Saluting our Veterans celebration ceremony will take place at The Meadows Events Center on November 11 at 10:30am.
Local high school, Southeast Polk’s Chamber Ensemble Choir will kick off the event with a performance of the national anthem. The formal program will begin at 11:11am with remarks from retired Marine Corps Major Sean Quinlan, State Representative Brian Lohse, other government officials, and Polk County Supervisors. Other highlights for this event include—
- Free lunch for all attendees
- Live music from Jake McVey from noon – 2pm
- Military display about the USS Iowa submarine, and weather permitting, a flyover of KC-135 aircraft
- Live music in the Finish Line Show Lounge by Get Off My Lawn at 1pm
During the celebration, Prairie Meadows will be conducting a fundraiser for the Central Iowa American Legion. The Legion is a unique veteran’s organization that specializes in providing assistance to veterans who have fallen through the cracks and are no longer receiving support from other groups. The Legion’s funds are used to provide aid to veterans for medical bills, food, rent, and other necessary day-to-day expenses.
